“Take your time going back.” Salome opened the passenger side door and stepped out of the sedan. “We don’t want her to abort too soon.”

Dmitry popped the boot and walked to the back of the car. He lifted Salome’s suitcase out and deposited it on the sidewalk. Dozens of people milled around them, being dropped off for their flights. As a major hub for several airlines, and a start- and endpoint for countless travelers to Europe and beyond, Heathrow Airport was typically filled with people coming and going at all hours. A young Asian girl in a tight skirt walked by, trailing the flowery scent of jasmine. Dmitry licked his lips and tracked her progress with his gaze.

Salome yanked her roller bag out of his hand. “Stay focused,” she snapped. “It’s what I pay you for, isn’t it?”

Dmitry’s eyebrows shot up and he shrugged, trying a boyish grin on the French assassin. Her scowl made him rethink his earlier fantasies about bringing the bitch to heel.

He’d have to find another, more pliant participant.

“Is everything in place?” she asked, her tone all business.

Dmitry gave her a mock salute. “Oui, mon capitaine.” Something had to soften the woman. When his attempt at humor didn’t work, he decided he wouldn’t waste any more time trying.

“You might want to get to the airport early tomorrow, in case there are roadblocks.” She checked her phone. “My flight is on time.”

“And why is it that you aren’t taking the private jet?”

Salome narrowed her eyes. “That is none of your concern.” She abruptly turned and walked toward the terminal.

Dmitry shook his head. She was one crazy bitch, but she paid well. Better even than the general. He closed the boot and walked around to the driver’s side door. Before getting in, he scanned the people on the sidewalk until he found the young girl with the jasmine perfume. She was hugging an older woman goodbye. When she turned to leave, her gaze landed on Dmitry. He smiled and checked the clock on the dash inside the car.

He had plenty of time.
